Back in April we reported that Amgen (www.amgen.com) had rescheduled plans for their expansion in Cork. Then they announced that they were pushing plans back 2 years.

Well today they have updated their schedule and said that they are shelving the plan. They do plan to keep the site that they own in Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork. A spokesperson said it was “based purely on developments relating to Amgen’s global business” and was no reflection on Ireland. Amgen has just started a cost cutting program, in which aims to reduce their staff numbers by 14%. Drugs made by Amgen, which is head quartered in California, include Vectibix for cancer and arthritis treatment Enbrel.
