Yesterday, Massachusetts-based, Biotechnology company Genzyme (www.genzyme.com) announced plans to create 52 new jobs in their Waterford Plant. This equates to a €270 million investment in their Irish manufacturing plant. And it will bring their Irish workforce to 411 people in Ireland, and more than 9,000 worldwide.
Genzyme in Waterford produces Renagel, a medicine used in the treatment of chronic kidney disease. Because of the increase sales of the drug (up 16% in the first 3 months of 2007), Genzyme has decided to expand operations.
